Colorful Rainbow Fruit Tray

There’s something about a rainbow of fresh fruit that just instantly lifts the mood, isn’t there?

I love putting together this Rainbow Fruit Tray when I want something bright, cheerful, and effortlessly beautiful for the table.

It’s one of those recipes that looks like you spent ages arranging it, but really it’s just simple layers of fresh, colorful fruit.

Rainbow Fruit Tray - colorful fruit platter in rainbow colors made with fruits and berries like strawberries, mandarin segments, canned pineapple pieces, green grapes, blue grapes, and dark red grapes.

Whether it’s for a brunch, a party, or just a fun family treat, this tray always feels like a little celebration.

How To Make This Rainbow Fruit Tray

Ingredients You’ll Need For This Recipe

  • ¾–1 pound fresh strawberries
  • 6–8 mandarins
  • 4–5 ounces canned pineapple pieces
  • ½–¾ pound green grapes
  • ½–¾ pound blue grapes
  • ½–¾ pound dark red grapes

Step-by-Step Guide

1. Wash all the fresh fruit thoroughly and let it dry completely on a kitchen towel or paper towels.

2. Remove the stems and cut the strawberries into quarters.

3. Peel the mandarins and separate them into individual segments.

4. Drain the canned pineapple pieces well and pat them dry with a paper towel.

5. Remove all grapes from their stems and keep them separated by color.

6. Visually divide your tray into six horizontal or slightly angled sections, so you can create evenly sized rows or arches for each fruit.

7. Start at the top of the tray and add a row of strawberry quarters.

8. Just below the strawberries, add a row of mandarin segments.

9. Follow with a row of pineapple pieces.

10. Continue with a row of green grapes, then a row of blue grapes, and finish with a row of dark red grapes at the bottom.

11. Because grapes are larger, their rows may appear taller. Add extra layers of strawberries, mandarins, or pineapple as needed so all the rows look roughly the same height.

12. Cover the tray with plastic wrap and refrigerate until you’re ready to serve.

Important Recipe Notes

  • I used a 12×9-inch rectangular tray, but the exact amount of fruit you need will depend on your tray size and how generously you layer the fruit.
  • Grapes naturally create more height, so it’s best to build up the smaller fruits like strawberries, mandarins, and pineapple gradually to match. Don’t add everything at once — save some to even things out as you go.
  • If you’re worried about grapes rolling around while transporting the tray, use a slightly deeper dish or add thin slices of apple underneath as a barrier to hold them in place.
  • When covered and stored in the refrigerator or a cool place, the tray will stay looking fresh for about 3–4 hours.
