How To Make This Red, White and Blue Dessert Charcuterie Board
Ingredients You’ll Need For This Recipe
- 8 ounces Cool Blue Gatorade
- 2 packets unflavored gelatin (about 0.5 ounce total)
- 2 cups fresh strawberries
- ½ canary melon
- 2 cups fresh blueberries
- ½ small watermelon
- 1–2 packages vanilla wafers
- 1–2 bars white chocolate
- 3-4 varieties of different red and blue gummy candies
Step-by-Step Guide
1. Pour four tablespoons of Gatorade into a small bowl and sprinkle the gelatin over the top.
2. Stir quickly and allow it to bloom for 5 minutes until the gelatin absorbs all of the liquid.
3. Warm the remaining Gatorade in a small saucepan on medium heat until hot but not boiling.
4. Stir in the bloomed gelatin mixture until completely dissolved. Let cool for a few minutes.
5. Pour the Gatorade mixture into your shot glasses or small serving cups.
6. Allow them to cool to room temperature before refrigerating for at least 4 hours until fully set.
7. Wash the strawberries and blueberries thoroughly and allow them to dry on a clean kitchen or paper towel for a few minutes.
8. Remove the seeds from the canary melon and cut it into thick slices before cubing it into bite-sized pieces.
9. Spread the melon cubes on a paper towel or kitchen towel as well to absorb any excess moisture.
10. Cut the strawberries into halves or quarters, depending on their size.
11. Arrange the strawberries on one side of your serving tray, the melon cubes in the center, and the blueberries on the opposite side.
12. Cover and refrigerate for up to 3–4 hours until you’re ready to assemble the board.
13. Cut the watermelon into thick slices and then into cubes.
14. Place the watermelon cubes on a towel briefly to remove excess moisture.
15. Transfer the cubes to small serving bowls and refrigerate them until you’re ready to use them.
16. Break the white chocolate and vanilla wafers into smaller pieces.
17. To assemble the dessert board, place the prepared red, white, and blue fruit tray in the center of a large serving or cutting board.
18. Place the blue gelatin shots at either end of the fruit tray.
19. Fill the corners and open spaces around the fruit tray with pieces of white chocolate and red and blue gummy candies.
20. Place the bowls of watermelon cubes on either side of the fruit tray towards the middle.
21. Fill the remaining spaces with the vanilla wafer pieces.
22. Serve within an hour of assembly for the freshest presentation.
Important Recipe Notes
- Allow all fruits to dry thoroughly after washing and cutting them up. This helps prevent excess water from pooling in the fruit tray and serving bowls.
- If you’d like sweeter gelatin shots, add 1–2 teaspoons of sugar to the hot Gatorade before dissolving the gelatin.
- For an adult version, substitute part of the Gatorade with vodka. Use 5 ounces Gatorade and 3 ounces vodka, adding the vodka after the gelatin mixture has cooled slightly.
- Don’t worry too much about arranging everything strictly by color. Placing the larger items first and filling gaps with smaller treats often creates the most balanced and attractive board.
- You can easily swap fruits depending on what’s available. Cherries, raspberries, red grapes, black grapes, blackberries, pears, apples, or even marshmallows can work beautifully to replace the different colors.
